Mann's Model Moments

Добавлен 29 дек 2020
Mann's Model Moments is a channel exploring my modelling and gaming antics. It evolved from my blog (mannmomo.blogspot.com/) and podcast (The Hub Systems, with my son Oscar). Since I started it, I have split off my D&D content into a sister companion channel (ruclips.net/channel/UCAOBHfHgtNdWcloyB3lkyog) so I can keep the focus here on modelling and gaming. I will mainly produce videos on unboxing, reviews and building of plastic scale models of both aircraft and military vehicles (Tanks & other AFVs), scale modelling tips and tricks, and the occasional product and board game unboxing and review.
If you wish to support the channel, I have both channel memberships here on RUclips and a Patreon (www.patreon.com/mannsmodels). There you get free merch, some behind the scenes stuff and a monthly giveaway. You can also follow me on Twitter (MannsModels), Instagram (MannsModelMoment) and Facebook (MannsModelMoments).

Airfix 2024 Releases - A Disappointing Drop
Vallejo has an interesting 2 step rust from the model air line in this set I bought, one is metallic the other just flat... kinda neat.
looks alot like same old mate.
Huh wow, my wireless demrel is so much smaller and compact than yours. Also variable and has a light on it, I love my dremel!
Sure
After market items... I hate that. Model kits should be complete right from the start, i.e. the after market parts should be standard issues included into the kit.
And what about those that couldn't afford the increased price of Kits because of that?
@@MannsModelMoments When I built my 1/200 Bismarck, the full price would have been around 900€. I couldn't afford that all at once. But I could bit by bit. I went for the subscription. 28€ each month for about 2,5 years.
@@ralfhtg1056 28 Euros a shot is still not cheap - more than a lot of modellers have to spend on their hobby, and you have to wait 3 years to build one kit - I imagine 99% of builders fall outside of this market.
@@MannsModelMoments oh, really? Well, that baffles me. I for my part don't want a model that is finished in just 2 weeks or so. So I like being busy for years with one kit.
@@ralfhtg1056 I think the great majority of modeller's want a finished product in less than 3 years. That doesn't mean some sort of speed run - a few weeks is a decently paced project, or even a few months. If a few years is your thing that's fine, but I doubt many would want a single long-term projects like that.
Where is border model ?
It didn't make it through to the final
I think this comparison yet again goes to show that "they don't make e'm like they used to!" I'd take the 2012 kit anyday, being a seasoned modeller and not a beginner, in fact I've just ordered the Red Tails one from KingKit for just £8 - really good value for money in the older kit considering the detail Airfix put into it. 👌
Its been a year! Please build it, my inner nostalgic kid is waiting for it since I watched this video last year. Its my only hope, I cant find the kit anywehere near my place (south america). Cheers! Great work by the way!
Regarding the colour scheme, I think it would look great in B-52G scheme of SEA upper colours and anti-flash on the under surfaces. Google B-52G camo 1970s cheers
Have you seen the XB70 made by a US modeller who uses both noses so he can display as a ground or Mach3 version. He hasn't cemented them, but they fit very nicely. Just a thought
Having coming back to modeling after a long while and now looking to apply new learnt skills, I am watching your tutorials with great interest and learning lots. A year on now have you managed to find a Pledge substitute as I am unable to find it in the UK, if not what would be the best ready made decal adhesive?
Just got around to seeing this, I've had VERY mixed results with decal solutions. I first bought humbrol decalfix and it seemed to be okay but then it really ruined one of my models. So I then bought some Revell Decal Soft and I find that is far better, had no problems with it at all. I've not tried microset/sol because it's hard to get here and very expensive. Did you ever find a good Pledge substitute? Great video!
Dear Alex, When I built the XB70 I encountered numerous fitting problems, the biggest of which was the fuselage to the wing section. This will be your major challenge!! That being done, the rest is (Italeri) straightforward! Good luck!! Regards, Z
I'm building the B26C Invader with ground crew figures from the same brand and it's not bad at all. I have the impression that on this model, we are still a notch above. It makes you want !
Really great video! Informative and with great stories too
Really interesting talk with funny anecdotes 👍
I've got the SAC white metal😢😢 replacement undercarriage, which is very nicely detailed. There are photo etch brass jet nozzles if you want to have the detail.
If this was the kit Nigel made at the start of his channel, I believe he got frustrated and trashed it so good luck. Look forward to see it completed
Alex, off topic, you might like to look into eye exercises using the "Bates method". It works for Septenegarian me.
What would be interesting would e seeing a model painted half and half. One half being what the instructions show with the other half done with your own style for painting kits. Give a real example of how doing your own thing can really affect the final product.
Great idea!
this is way way above my pay grade at this time
can u listed the size thickness of the plasticard u used for the instu panel?
Nice talk and interesting stories! I always learn something new, thank you all 🙂
Interesting. Looks easy to use, but taking your time is part of any past time, after all we don't build models as if we were on a factory production line, but being able to does not mean we have do, does it. I will have to give this paint a try when I have some spare time. Thinking about your "only danger is knocking over the bottle", I suggest that you need a block with a hole in it rather like the inkwell holder in an old fashioned escritiore.
That's a great idea...also my middle school (Age 8-10) had desks which had holes for an ink pot together with a lid so you could put your schoolbooks inside it....
@@MannsModelMoments mine too. Oh so long ago.
@@emmabird9745 Sadly yes!
Very interesting, although I'm surprised FineMolds Platz were eliminated so early, I have these kits in the stash and are close to Tamiya quality but ruinously expensive! I also have Kotobukiya kits which are a little more niche but super well engineered beyond some of those making the final
Having rewatched this and negated the rounds that have no significance to the completed build in your display such as branding instructions boxing kit options or cost and relying more on build and accuracy changes the results somewhat
You seem to be wanting to watch a different video than the one I made. I was reviewing which model COMPANY was the best in the world, not which are the best KITS or BUILDS in the world, which is a completely different (and rather less interesting) question.
@@MannsModelMoments I took your data and extrapolated the information I needed to draw a conclusion based on your video, still valid as far as your video is concerned
@@mikoleeman6991 Fair enough!
I have a question, what's pledge?
Answered here: ruclips.net/video/HFPvjfE1ZSM/видео.html
@@MannsModelMoments Ahhhh, I see, to me Pledge is a furniture polish in an aerosol can, so this is like Future Kleer?
@@mikoleeman6991 Yes, it's the last iteration of Klear before it was discontinued in late 2022
@@MannsModelMoments Thanks for the clarification, I still have half a bottle of Kleer, but good to know it still exists
While I broadly agree with the points you make, it's mostly marketing you're concerned with, they must have a marketing department that monitors the situation and adjusts strategy accordingly. This doesn't concern me in the least. Airfix flying hours and even starter sets seem like a bad idea, but It's poor consistency of their molding quality, that's the pressing issue for me. As for British subject bias, I'm all for this, a British company manufacturing subjects of British origin or service, yes please, with competition from eastern European short run kits filling the niche subjects produced, sticking with subjects of it's target market within the UK makes sense to me.
No, it's not marketing that concerns me at all - Airfix has very good marketing, that's not the problem. Commercial structure and direction is the primary concern - that is how a company lives or dies. Marketing is how you showcase what you've made from your commercial structure - it's the last link in the chain, though it should inform the product development and commercial decision making. QC is absolutely a big concern, as I mentioned in the video, and can limit the success of a commercial plan, but if the plan is wrong good QC won't save it.
@@MannsModelMoments Airfix is one of those brands that live on reputation they had many years ago, most new modellers are introduced through Airfix starter kits, it seems to be working, not sure how Airfix are doing as a business, but I for one wish them every success, if they can just get the QC sorted, as an aside, maybe it's just me, but the back ground music in a long lingering chords minor key, very depressing, would you consider something more upbeat?
@@mikoleeman6991 The QC is a critical issue, but they need to sort out their corporate strategy as a higher priority for long-term success and growth. I want Airfix to succeed as well, and from a consultancy view that is critical for any business. As for the music, I've no plans for any changes - part of the brand and I keep it low so that if individuals don't like it, you can lower the volume to minimise it or just mute with CC.
I have fallen in love with building scale model aircraft. I can remember when I started out 15 years ago. I have come a long way thanks to watching videos on youtube from the masters. Using an airbrush was my biggest bain and I took night school classes on airbrushing and I took each 12 week course twice...lol from beginers to seniors courses. I am still learning a lot. I would say patience is the biggest lesson learnt for me. Thank You for the video....GO OILERS GO
Well glad to have you as part of the community, and I think learning is a huge part of what makes the hobby great - enjoy!
I really enjoy the music you use in your videos. Where can find it? Thank you!
It's actually from RUclips's music studio
